Scientists Counteract Nanoparticle Lung Damage In Mice
Scientists have identified for the first time a mechanism by which nanoparticles cause lung damage and have demonstrated that it can be combated by blocking the process involved, taking a step toward addressing the growing concerns over the safety of nanotechnology.

Could Standard Treatment For Traumatic Brain Injury Be Wrong?
Traumatic brain injury not heart disease, stroke or cancer is the number one cause of death and disability in people under 45. Each year, some 1.5 million Americans, including soldiers, athletes, the elderly and children, sustain head injuries, and nearly half of them will be hospitalized and treated in an emergency room or intensive care unit.

Spine-shaped Gold Protrusions Improve The Adherence And Electrical Coupling Of Neurons With The Surface Of Micro-electronic Devices

Interfacing neurons with micro- and nano-electronic devices has been a subject of intense studies over the last decade and is used both in basic research and medical applications. The electronic devices used in such neuroelectronic hybrids are mainly planar metal electrodes and planar transistors. In this research a novel approach is presented, demonstrating the use of protruding micrometer scale spine-shaped gold electrodes. The gold spines were coated with a molecule promoting the engulfment of the electrode. The interface between the neuron and the electrode is shown by way of electron microscopy and high electrical coupling between the neuron and the electronic device.
