Research Carried Out In Mice Will Contribute To The Study Of Hereditary Diseases That Lead To Blindness
Researchers of the University of Granada (Spain) have used a technique consisting of the induction of neuronal degeneration neuronal for intense light exposure in the mouse"s retina that will be helpful for the study of retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a group of hereditary diseases which lead to blindness and affect more than one million persons a year all over the world. In addition, the results of this research work could be very useful for the detection of new factors or molecules originated by microglial cells and related to degenerative processes of the retina.

MDVIP Launches Preventive Medicine Pilot Program For Uninsured In Northern Virginia
On the heels of a successful partnership between MDVIP and Project Access in Palm Beach County, Florida, MDVIP will now roll out their second initiative to support the uninsured community in Northern Virginia. In collaboration with The INOVA Health Systems and Project Access of Northern Virginia (PANV), four of the local MDVIP-affiliated physicians will participate in a pilot program to provide services to uninsured patients who have diabetes, cardiovascular disease or may be considered a high-risk patient for either chronic condition.

Westminster Kingsway College Launches New Access To Higher Education Programme In Pharmacy And Biomedical Sciences

Westminster Kingsway College has launched a new Access to Higher Education programme in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at its new King"s Cross Centre in central London. The College is already a leading provider of Access to Higher Education courses in London as well as specialising in courses for Pharmacy Technicians in conjunction with the University of London"s School of Pharmacy and Birkbeck College. The new Access programme in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences will be focussing on those who are looking to progress to university courses in Pharmacy or Biomedical Sciences and the course has been developed in partnership with the School of Pharmacy at the University of London. Candidates will need to have some aptitude for science and maths already and it is preferable that they have been working in a medical or healthcare environment but they may have been out of education for some time or be looking to change their career. The one year Access programme will offer modules in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Study Skills. Specialist modules in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences include the action and uses of drugs; defence against disease; training in laboratory skills and health-related calculations. These modules will prepare learners to apply for university programmes in Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. Candidates will study in brand new science facilities at the College"s King"s Cross Centre. The learning environment provides facilities through which learners will develop the skills and knowledge they need for their next step and the aspirations to ensure it is a rewarding one. Every classroom is bright, stimulating and equipped with e-learning facilities.
